How to understand the specifications of USB cables ?

USB 2.0 CABLE:

For example:  7/0.127T×1P+11/0.16T×2C+AB16/5/0.10T  OD:4.0MM

1. 7/0.127: The core wire is formed by 7 copper wires with a diameter of 0.127mm
2. T: Tinned copper
3. P: P-Pair, Means that the set of wires is independently shielded, Generally used for data transmission
4. 11/0.16: The core wire is formed by 11 copper wires with a diameter of 0.16mm
5. C: C-Core, The number of cores,It means that this group of wires is not independently shielded and is generally used for power supply.
6. A: A-Aluminum foil, refers to the whole cable added aluminum foil shielding layer
7. B: B-Braided, means that a braided shield is added to the entire cable, usually using aluminum or copper wire.
8. 16/5/0.10: Means that the specification of the braid layer is: 5 wires with a diameter of 0.1 mm are intertwined to form a group, a total of 16 groups, which are once again entangled to form a braid layer.
9. OD: Outer Diameter

USB 3.0 CABLE:
For example: USB 3.0 (7/0.127TA*1PR+EAM)*2+7/0.127TA*1PR+7/0.20TA*2C+AEB OD:5.5mm

1.  7/0.127: The core wire is formed by 7 copper wires with a diameter of 0.127mm
2. TA: Tinned copper
3. PR: PR-Pair, Means that the set of wires is independently shielded, Generally used for data transmission
4. E: E-Earth, Ground wire
5. A: A-Aluminum foil, refers to the whole cable added aluminum foil shielding layer
6. M: M-Mylar,Composed of aluminum foil and ethylene terephthalate(PET)
7. 2: 2 groups
8. A: A: A-Aluminum foil, refers to the whole cable added aluminum foil shielding layer
9. E: E-Earth, Ground wire
10. B: B-Braided, means that a braided shield is added to the entire cable, usually using aluminum or copper wire
11. (): Means that all parts in parentheses are a group of independent shields

USB 3.1 CABLE:

For example: (7*0.08T*1P+D+AL+HM)*4C+7/0.08T*1P+7/0.08T*4C+7/0.16T*2C+ADB16/9/0.08T OD:4.5mm
1. 7/0.08: The core wire is formed by 7 copper wires with a diameter of 0.08mm
2. T: Tinned copper
3. P: P-Pair, Means that the set of wires is independently shielded, Generally used for data transmission
4. D: D-Drain, Ground wire
5. AL: AL-Aluminum foil, refers to the whole cable added aluminum foil shielding layer
6. HM: HM-Hot Mylar
7. C: C-Core, The number of cores
8. A: A-Aluminum foil, refers to the whole cable added aluminum foil shielding layer
9. B: B-Braided, means that a braided shield is added to the entire cable, usually using aluminum or copper wire
10.16/9/0.08: Means that the specification of the braid layer is: 9 wires with a diameter of 0.08 mm are intertwined to form a group, a total of 16 groups, which are once again entangled to form a braid layer.
11. OD: Outer Diameter

USB cable commonly used wire gauge list:
32AWG: 0.0316mm²
30AWG: 0.0507mm²
28AWG: 0.0804mm²
26AWG: 0.1281mm²
24AWG: 0.2047mm²
22AWG: 0.3247mm²
20AWG: 0.5189mm²

How do American wire gauges translate to square area?
Formula: 0.7854ND² (N-Nomber of the core wires, D-Outer Diameter of the wire)
For example: 7/0.08, Area =0.7854×7×0.08×0.08=0.0352mm2≈32AWG
